I read the article en titled “Exo Fans’ Inappropriate Behavior” and my conclusion is that there really isn’t a winning side this this argument. Both sides are right, but both side are also wrong.
From a non exo fan point of view, I can see and understand why they think this fandom needs to have some boundaries and set some limits to what okay and what not okay. The name calling is uncalled for and rude towards these idols that we so call ‘love and respect’ even if they are not meant to be taken seriously. Especially ‘Thehun’ joke, it’s not a joke to mock someone lisp. And as for disregarding the fact that these 12 boys are people who have a right to their privates which exo fans seem to forget whenever in their presents along with how to have common decency. It’s no wonder why people may say that this fandom is out of control.
From an exo fan point of view, a lot of the things this author saide were pretty unnecessary. By this I mean their problems that pretty much everyone in this fandom is aware of and have agreed are wrong and are trying to fix. For example the girl’s behavior in the London fan cam and the mob in China, we all agree that those situations were out of control, disrespectful towards the boy’s personal space and privates, and an embarrassment towards this fandom. So we don’t need you coming out and reminding us all of these events that we have already agreed should never happen again and that we’re are trying to keep under control for the future.
Second of all, whoever wrote this article is obviously someone who has experience this fandom from the outside. Meaning the only knowledge about this fandom he/she has are from the few things that they have seen/heard and never had an actually 1st hand experience of when being an exo fan. (BTW it takes more than ‘quite a few lovely Exo fans’ for you to say that you have a good understanding of what the whole fandom is like.) Because these lovely few seem to have forgotten to tell you that, the name calling is just an inside joke. They were to stay within the fandom, within in tumblr. They were never meant to be said in front of their faces or be taken seriously. That one time in London we have already talked about and agreed that ‘thehun’, while it might have been funny at 1st, it’s disrespectful to Sehun and ever since, people have stopped using the nickname. Also I don’t see why we should be looked at as so wrongly when these inside jokes (the ones towards kai and luhan) can be seen in any kpop fandom. They were meant to be friendly harsh jokes (like when you’re with your group of friends and you call each other thing like ‘asshole’ or ‘you damn bitch’. They aren’t meant to be taken to heart, but more as harsh love) and we would never say these thing to their faces b/c we know that they may not see it that was since to them we’re more fans than friends.
And of course we would never call them that in any other way than a joke. I’m willing to bet money that if any one called kai or luhan a slut or whore and meant it then exo fan would be on their ass in a heartbeat.
To me I’ve seen this agreement from both side, and in conclusion, to those who are not a part of this fandom honestly have no right to label exo fans as disrespect and out of control just because of the things said with in this article, once again, you (along with the writer of this article) have no really understanding what happen within this fandom and your basically judging us from what 10 out 1000% of this fandom is like. We agree that these thing are wrong but if only a few out of thousands are acting this way, and you’re not willing to give this fandom a chance b/c of this than, well, I’d say you’re the one at wrong and at lost.
As for those with in the fandom, I’m sure we all agree on one thing and that is that sometime this fandom may go overboard. But I will not stand people saying that they are not a part of this fandom just b/c they are embarrassment of someone pointing out what a few of our kind have done wrong. A fandom is like a family, we don’t get to choose who’s in it but we must learn to get along and fix one another’s mistakes. Learn from our boys, the 12 of them weren’t always friends and teammates but they learned to get along and have each other backs. They are one and so are we, so I don’t understand why you would go and agree that with someone who is looking down on us when you are one yourself. We should instead, help this fandom grow out of that 10% of child-ness and into one that will show a better side to the public so that article like this won’t continue to happen.
I for one am not proud of some of the thing that exo fans have done but I will always love this fandom because putting all other thing asided, all of you are honestly really awesome people who know how to keep exo fans laughing and although you make fun of them, you sincerely love these 12 cute, awkward, sometimes derpy but beautiful and hardworking boys and are ready to support them whenever needed. EXO FAN HWATING AND KEEP ROLLING LIKE BUAFFALOS!
(On a side note I hate how this article is displaying us as such a bad fandom even though they calm to understand that not the whole fandom is like this. It doesn’t seem to me that you’re trying to defend the other side and it seriously hurt us because to people who aren’t into exo and no nothing about the fandom, they will look at this and learn only they ugly side of exo fans and judge us off of that. Which again is unfair, seeing that every fandom has this ugly sided but now your highlighting ours for the public to see when even you don’t complete understand us.)
Say it loud and proud sister
